The University of West Alabama Foundation was incorporated in 1992 as a private foundation and granted a tax exempt status as described in Section 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service in February, 1993.  The Employer Identification Number for the Foundation is 63-1074127.  Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible as provided in Section 170 of the IRS code.

The Foundation is managed by The University of West Alabama's Office of Institutional Advancement, located in Webb Hall, Livingston, Alabama.  All financial records are kept on file in this office.  An Annual Report is also kept on file in that office and an independent audit by certified public accountant is done every two years.  The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of seventeen members with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement serving as Executive Secretary.
